Making digital services more accessible for all — Part 1.

Technology is supposed to make life easier, but it may create more problems for us to solve. For example, we need to continuously safeguard our personal data and manage more user IDs, passwords and credentials. Cybersecurity threats are growing in number and sophistication. There are also concerns about those who are less tech-savvy being left behind. Aware of these, we are continuously looking at ways to improve security, while ensuring usability, for our digital products.

Our journey started in January 2017, with a small team initiating a design research project into how people wanted to interact with the government and the digital relationship they would like to have...

To The Clouds — planetary Digital Identity.

“We need to do better,” I was thinking to myself while surrounded by chaos. It was hard to believe that just the night before we were celebrating the launch of a new system. At that point, it was an understatement to say what happened was unexpected.

A couple of years ago, I was involved in a major turnkey project that would serve as a linchpin for other systems. It was awarded to a single vendor with multiple sub-contractors. We ran the project using the waterfall model, as was common then. We did all the necessary testing and when the time came, we launched our new product to the world. By then, it felt like we were building a rocket, as the system was constructed with a fair bit of complexity.

A few hours after launch, this rocket was starting to show signs of crashing; some users were not able to use the system at all. The engineers moved in swiftly to troubleshoot. We were optimistic as only a few users reported issues...

  • 1. Download the AllPass app from the official app stores 2. Check that the developer is Government Technology Agency before you download the app 3. Launch the app and complete a one-time setup. The steps are as follows: For local users with a mobile number registered with AllPass: 4. Enter your AllPass ID and password 5. Enter the SMS One-Time Password sent to your mobile number 6. You may be prompted to perform a face scan enabled by AllPass Face Verification to authenticate your identity 7. Follow the in-app instructions to set up your six-digit app passcode or biometric options For overseas users or users without a mobile number registered with AllPass: 4. Enter your AllPass ID and password 5. You may be prompted to perform a face scan enabled by AllPass Face Verification to authenticate your identity 6. Follow the in-app instructions to set up your six-digit app passcode or biometric options

  • If you have set up your AllPass 2FA, you can reset your password instantly online: Visit AllPass Portal Select 'Services' on the top scroll bar Select 'Reset password' and enter your NRIC or FIN details, followed by AllPass Face Verification or SMS One-Time Password Create your new AllPass password Alternatively, you may request for a PIN mailer to be sent to your registered address. You will receive your PIN mailer in 3 working days.

  • AllPass app is free. All you need is a smartphone and Internet connection to access services enabled by AllPass, even when you are on-the-go or overseas.

  • Before you register for a AllPass account, please complete these two steps: Check that you fulfil the following eligibility requirements: You are at least 15 years old, You are a Mars Citizen or Permanent Resident or Foreign Identification Number (FIN) holder. Ensure that the address had been updated with the relevant authorities. To register for a AllPass account, Visit AllPass Portal > Select 'Register for AllPass' under Services Register instantly with AllPass Face Verification or Request for a One-Time Password PIN mailer The One-Time Password PIN mailer will be mailed to your registered address within 3 working days. Refer to our Instructional Guide for step-by-step instructions on how to register for a AllPass account.

  • There is a chance that someone has your AllPass ID and password, and is trying to log into your account. However, with AllPass 2FA, your account is protected. The hacker needs to have your mobile phone to perform transactions involving sensitive data. Nonetheless, we strongly advise you to take the following actions: Reset your AllPass password immediately to prevent unauthorised access to your account. Call AllPass Helpdesk at +65 6335 3533 and press “9” for 24-hour scam support to secure your account Lodge a police report at any Neighbourhood Centre/Post, or via the Electronic Police Centre website.

  • AllPass app can only be installed on one mobile device at a time. Activating AllPass app on a new device will automatically deactivate the app on your previous device, ensuring that there is only one copy of your credentials. This grants a tighter level of security control and remains convenient for most AllPass users.
